Guide to Become a TikTok Shop Affiliate

Almost every guide on how to become a TikTok Shop affiliate tells you that you need 5,000 followers.

You need 1,000.

TikTok’s own Creator Eligibility Policy, dated 31 July 2026, says 1,000. The 5,000 figure is still sitting on an older TikTok page, which is where every blog copied it from — and it’s now a graduation threshold, not an entry gate.

That single mistake stops people applying who would already qualify.

  • I spoke at a TikTok affiliate conference in Vietnam last year, and I’ve been putting creators into TikTok Shop programmes since.

This is the version with TikTok’s own documentation behind every number.

✅ Bottom Line Up Front

  • TikTok Shop affiliate requirements (US): 1,000 followers, 18 years old, US-based, a personal or creator account in good standing, and identity verification.
  • Where you apply: TikTok Studio → Monetization → TikTok Shop for Creator → Join now.
  • Approval time: identity verification usually takes minutes, up to 24 hours.
  • Under 5,000 followers? You enter the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program — a 30-day restricted tier most guides don’t mention at all. Details below.
  • Commission: sellers set it, anywhere from 1% to 80%. Your rate is locked for 30 days once you pick a product.
  • First payout: commission settles roughly 15 days after delivery, and can stretch to 31. Budget for six weeks from first sale to money in your account.

TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements, Exactly

Straight from TikTok’s Creator Eligibility Policy. This is the US version.

RequirementDetail
Age18 or older
Followers1,000 for Affiliate Creator
LocationBased in the United States
Account typePersonal or creator account. Government, Politician and Political Party Accounts are excluded
Account standingNo prior record of e-commerce permissions being revoked, and not associated with accounts that had them revoked
Identity verificationRequired — government-issued ID plus selfie
Age confirmationMust complete within 2 months of registering, up to 15 attempts
Content historyNo posting-history requirement in the US policy

Two things worth flagging because they trip people up.

  1. One ID can verify up to five creator accounts. You get 10 verification attempts and two appeals if rejected.
  2. There’s no US content-history requirement, but the UK has one — you must have posted in the last 28 days with no videos removed in that window. If you’re reading a UK guide in the US, that rule doesn’t apply to you.
  3. Other creator types exist and have different bars. Official Shop Creators need no minimum followers. Marketing Creators need none to self-sell, but 5,000+ to access the TikTok Shop Product Marketplace. If you’re a normal creator wanting to promote other people’s products, you want the Affiliate Creator path.

The 1,000 vs 5,000 Confusion, Settled

This deserves its own section because it’s the single most repeated error in the category.

1,000 followers gets you in. That’s the Affiliate Creator entry requirement, stated in TikTok’s most recently dated policy.

5,000 followers is what gets you out of the Pilot Program and into full marketplace access.

The confusion is TikTok’s fault. Their own Creator Center page still lists 5,000 as a requirement, and a separate Creator Bind page references 5,000 for Marketing Creator self-application. Three live TikTok pages, three different framings.

How to read it: if the page you’re looking at doesn’t have a 2026 date on it, assume it’s stale. The Creator Eligibility Policy dated 31 July 2026 is the one that governs.

So if you’ve got 1,200 followers and you’ve been told you’re not eligible, you are. That’s how to become TikTok Shop affiliate approved without waiting another six months.

How to Apply for the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program, Step by Step

The full TikTok Shop affiliate sign up flow, in order. This is how to apply for TikTok Shop affiliate access from a standing start.

  • Step 1 — Open the entry point. In the TikTok app: TikTok Studio → Monetization → TikTok Shop for Creator → Join now.

You can also enter from the Creator Search Insights page, the Shop tab, or any product detail page.

  • Step 2 — Accept the Creator Terms of Use. Read the commission and disclosure sections. I’ll cover both below.
  • Step 3 — Confirm your age. Three methods: in-app recognition, credit card, or ID plus selfie. You get 15 attempts and must finish within two months of registering.
  • Step 4 — Verify your identity. Full name, date of birth, address, and front-and-back photos of a US government-issued ID — driver’s licence, state ID, or passport personal page.

Ten attempts, two appeals. Usually processes in minutes, up to 24 hours.

  • Step 5 — Set up your commission account. Personal details matching your government ID and your bank account exactly, plus tax details.

This is where most people get stuck later. TikTok names a mismatch between your ID name and your bank account name as the most common cause of failed withdrawals. Middle initials, married names, abbreviations — make them match.

  • Step 6 — Land in the Pilot Program if you’re under 5,000 followers.
  • One thing to expect. Your product links may be hidden temporarily while verification processes. That’s normal, not a rejection.
  • On approval timing: TikTok publishes a time for identity verification only. There’s no published SLA for overall programme approval. Any guide promising “approved in 24 to 48 hours” is inventing it.

The Pilot Program Nobody Explains

If you have between 1,000 and 5,000 followers, you don’t get full access on day one. You get the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program, and almost no guide covers this.

It’s a 30-day restricted onboarding tier. You can promote products and earn commission, but with capped posting and no campaign eligibility.

To graduate you need all of these:

  1. 5,000 followers
  2. 30+ days in the programme
  3. A clean record with a minimum 176-point Creator Health Rating
  4. One activity milestone: 6+ shoppable videos of at least 8 seconds, or 1+ product-promoting livestream of at least 5 minutes, or 10+ orders

Then you pass a probation quiz to open up full marketplace features.

On the posting limits, TikTok contradicts itself. One page says 3 shoppable videos a day plus 3 livestreams a week. Another says 5 videos and 3 livestreams weekly. A third distinguishes daily from weekly by extended status.

Three live TikTok pages, three different numbers. Limits changed on 11 May 2026, which probably explains the drift. Check your own Pilot Program page in Account Settings rather than trusting any published figure, including mine.

The practical read. The 10-orders milestone is usually the fastest route through. Six good shoppable videos is more work than ten orders if you pick one product that converts.

How You Actually Get Products

Four routes, and knowing the difference changes what you earn.

Open Collaboration is the marketplace. Sellers list products visible to all TikTok Shop creators, you pick what you want, commission runs 1% to 80%. Some sellers turn on approval requirements.

Commission percentage up to:80%

Target Collaboration is when a seller invites you directly at a set rate. This matters because the target rate always supersedes the open rate. TikTok’s own example: open 10%, target 15%, invited creator gets 15%.

That’s the whole reason to build a track record. Better creators get invited at better rates on the same product.

Product Showcase is the shopping tab on your profile. Up to 2,000 products, with algorithmic ranking TikTok calls Smart Showcase and claims lifts sales 3 to 10%.

Samples — covered in its own section below.

  • Certain categories are gated. Twelve general categories including smart devices and appliances need a Promotion Performance Score of 3.5+ and a Creator Health Rating of 150+. Six supplement and wellness categories need a sales track record. Sexual wellness is invite-only and not accepting applications.

    One thing that catches people

Enforcement is real-time. You’ll be blocked at the point of adding the product, with no warning beforehand.

Shop Plans are discontinued. If a guide mentions them, it predates the change.

How Commission Works

TikTok Affiliate Program Commision

Sellers set the rate, not TikTok. The Creator Terms of Use are explicit that commissions “are established by the Sellers or Affiliate Partners” and that TikTok is not a party to the agreement.

The range is 1% to 80% for both open and target collaboration.

How it’s calculated: (Revenue − Refunds) × Commission rate, based on the actual price paid, not the list price. Discounts reduce your commission.

The 30-day rate lock is the mechanic worth understanding. When you select a product, your rate is guaranteed for 30 days. Rate increases apply immediately. Rate decreases don’t reach you until the 30 days lapse, and TikTok notifies you two days before that protection expires.

So if a seller cuts commission from 20% to 8%, you keep 20% for the rest of your window. That’s genuinely creator-friendly and worth planning around — when you see the two-day warning, decide whether that product is still worth promoting.

On typical commission rates by category: I’m not going to give you a table. TikTok doesn’t publish one, and every “beauty 15–20%, electronics 5–8%” table circulating traces back to nothing. Look at actual live rates in the marketplace instead.

Free Samples and How to Get Them

The sample system is the part creators most want and most misunderstand.

Free samples are not available to brand-new creators. You need sales on TikTok Shop within the last 120 days. Pilot Program creators can request samples after their first sale.

That’s the gate. You have to sell something before anyone sends you anything free.

How many you can have active, by monthly GMV:

Monthly GMVActive requests
Under $5,0005
$5,000–$150,00020
Over $150,00050

Total available requests by badge level: Bronze and Silver 20, Gold 40, Platinum 50, Ruby through Diamond 100.

The obligation people miss. You must post within 14 days of receiving the sample — either a public short-form video that stays up at least 3 days, or a livestream of 10+ minutes, with product links attached.

Miss it and your fulfilment rate drops. Sellers can see that number, and they use it to reject future requests. You get one 7-day extension and one appeal if the item arrives defective.

Refundable samples are the better route early on. You buy the product, and you get a full refund including shipping and tax once your content generates the required sales — usually 1 to 3 orders. No seller approval needed, no posting deadline, and you have 120 days to hit the target.

If you’re starting out and can float the cost, refundable samples get you moving without the fulfilment-rate risk.

Your First Payout, Realistically

This is where expectations need managing.

Commission settles on the 15th day after the order is delivered. Not after the order is placed — after it arrives.

That’s because there’s a 14-day after-sales window for returns. Your commission finalises after it closes.

It can stretch to 31 days if the seller’s settlement period is longer, or if there’s an unresolved dispute, refund or return.

Order statuses you’ll see:

  • Pending — withdrawable once delivery plus settlement completes
  • Settled — withdrawable now
  • Not eligible — cancelled or refunded, zero commission
  • Frozen — risk control, contact support

Withdrawal methods and costs:

MethodFeeProcessing
Bank account$0.05 per transaction3–5 business days
PayPal0.9% of transaction1 business day

Both carry a $2 minimum. Withdrawals are blocked until identity verification passes.

If you promote cross-border products, you get automatic withdrawal every Wednesday. Local-only creators withdraw manually whenever they want.

Realistic timeline from first sale to money in the bank: the order ships, the customer receives it, 14 days pass, it settles on day 15, then 1 to 5 days to withdraw. Call it four to six weeks. Plan cash flow accordingly.

Tax is entirely your responsibility. TikTok states plainly that it “will not determine your federal, state, or local tax obligations.”

Get Up to $6,000 in TikTok Ad Credits

Organic affiliate content and paid amplification are different games. New TikTok advertisers can access up to $6,000 in ad credits, but the credits are issued after billed spend, not before, and eligibility is narrower than many promo pages suggest.

The Creator Health Rating That Can End Your Account

Every TikTok Shop creator has a Creator Health Rating. Most don’t know it exists until it drops.

You start at 200 points on a 0 to 1,000 scale. Violations deduct points. Deductions auto-reset after 90 days.

The enforcement ladder:

ScoreConsequence
≤150Lose shoppable videos, LIVEs and Showcase for 3 days
≤100Same restrictions for 7 days
≤50Same restrictions for 14 days
0Permanent removal of all e-commerce permissions

How to recover points: +1 for a perfect policy quiz score, +1 per compliant post generating eligible orders (max 5 a week), +1 per 50 completed orders (max 5 a week), plus any restored by a successful appeal.

The rule that catches people out. The same violation six times within 90 days removes your permissions immediately and freezes your commissions — even if your point total is still in an acceptable band. Repetition matters independently of score.

Appeals: 30 days from the enforcement date, one appeal per violation. Milestone enforcement actions can’t be appealed.

Check your CHR before you scale volume. Losing permissions with unpaid commission frozen is the worst outcome in this programme, and it’s entirely avoidable.

Content Rules That Get Videos Pulled

TikTok’s content policy for shoppable videos is stricter than the general community guidelines, and enforcement is active.

What gets you pulled:

  • Exaggerated performance claims
  • Unsupported comparisons like “lowest price you’ll find”
  • Cure claims or scientifically impossible claims
  • Timeline-based weight loss promises, and GLP-1 comparisons
  • Absolute language — “100% effective,” “guaranteed results”
  • Filters, AI or editing that exaggerate results
  • Misleading AI-generated content or impersonation
  • Content persuading minors to buy, or featuring minors endorsing products
TikTok Content Red-Flags to Avoid

There’s a quality floor too. You must speak, interact, appear on screen, or meaningfully present the product. Static images, very short clips, GIF-only videos and reposted media all violate standards.

On price claims specifically, and this changed in July 2026: discount claims must be verifiable against the live listing price and must still be valid when the content is viewed. Time-sensitive language only during active promotions. Check the price before you record, and don’t round $19.99 down to $19.

Disclaimers are narrower than people think. “Individual results may vary” is permitted only for before-and-after comparisons and time-based results. It cannot be used to justify a medical, weight or wellness claim.

Disclosure is contractual, not optional. The Creator Terms of Use require you to clearly disclose the commercial relationship using the Branded Content Toggle, in compliance with FTC endorsement guidelines.

Undisclosed commercial content becomes ineligible for For You feed distribution. You get a system notification and 24 hours to fix it, and correct disclosure restores eligibility.

TikTok states that disclosure labelling doesn’t hurt performance. In my experience that’s accurate — the distribution penalty for not disclosing is far worse than any perceived cost of the label.

Outside the US

The programme runs well beyond the US, with locally-worded rules per market.

As of 2025, TikTok only pays creators in selected countries through the Creator Rewards Program and other monetization options. If you’re in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, or additional eligible countries like Canada, Australia, Italy, Spain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam — you may qualify. To be eligible, you need: • 10,000 followers • 100,000 views in the last 30 days • Be 18+ years old • Post original videos over 1 minute Comment your country below and I’ll tell you which TikTok monetization program you can join right now. Verified live markets: United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam.

Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland went live on 15 June 2026. Japan launched 30 June 2025 with a creator affiliate model included from the start.

The UK bar is slightly different: 1,000+ followers, 18+, a video posted in the last 28 days, and no videos removed in that window.

Vietnam has a tier the US doesn’t. Alongside the standard 1,000-follower Affiliate account, there’s an “Affiliate Link-Only” account with no follower minimum — you can share product links but not run LIVE selling or request samples.

That’s a genuinely lower barrier to entry than anything available in the US, and it’s part of why the Southeast Asian creator ecosystem moved faster.

Vietnam also requires a 12-digit chipped CCCD plus tax ID with NFC chip scanning. Foreign nationals need a passport plus proof of a Vietnamese address from the last three months.

In the EU, TikTok’s framing is that approved creators across the EU can promote products and earn commissions — cross-border eligibility rather than strictly per-country.

What I’d Do Differently Starting Today

Five things, in order.

  1. Get to 1,000 followers and apply immediately. Don’t wait for 5,000. The Pilot Program is a 30-day clock, and it only starts once you’re in.
  2. Pick one product and drive 10 orders. That’s the fastest Pilot graduation milestone, and it simultaneously opens free samples — which need sales in the last 120 days.
  3. Use refundable samples before free ones. No approval needed, no 14-day posting deadline, no fulfilment-rate risk. Float the cost if you can.
  4. Watch for the two-day rate-lock warning. When a seller cuts commission, you have a protected window. Use it to decide whether to keep promoting or move on, rather than discovering the cut in your earnings report.
  5. Check your Creator Health Rating monthly. Nobody does this until something breaks. Six repeat violations in 90 days freezes your commission regardless of your score.
  6. And one thing I wouldn’t do. Don’t chase the highest commission percentage. An 80% rate on a product nobody wants pays zero. A 12% rate on something that actually converts pays every week.

FAQs Related to TikTok Shop Affiliate

How many followers do you need for TikTok Shop affiliate?

1,000 for the US Affiliate Creator programme. 5,000 is the threshold for graduating the Pilot Program into full marketplace access, which is why so many guides quote it as the entry requirement.

How to be a TikTok Shop affiliate if I’m under 18?

You can’t. The minimum age is 18 and it’s verified with government ID.

How do I join TikTok Shop for affiliates without a business?

You don’t need a business. A personal or creator account works, verified with your own government-issued ID and matched to a personal bank account.

Can I be a TikTok Shop affiliate outside the US?

Yes, in fifteen-plus markets including the UK, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore and much of the EU. Requirements vary — Vietnam has a no-follower-minimum link-only tier the US doesn’t offer.

Why was my TikTok Shop affiliate application rejected?

Most rejections trace to identity verification failing, a name mismatch between your ID and bank account, being under 18, or a prior e-commerce enforcement on an associated account.

Do I need to disclose that I’m earning commission?

Yes. It’s a contractual requirement under the Creator Terms of Use, enforced via the Branded Content Toggle. Undisclosed commercial content loses For You feed distribution.

How long until I get paid?

Roughly four to six weeks from your first sale. Commission settles 15 days after delivery, up to 31 in some cases, then 1 to 5 days to withdraw.

Can I promote products from more than one seller?

Yes, and you should. Your Product Showcase holds up to 2,000 products across any number of sellers.

What’s a Promotion Performance Score?

A separate metric from Creator Health Rating, used to gate category access. You need 3.5+ alongside a CHR of 150+ for several restricted categories.

Does TikTok take a cut of my commission?

TikTok isn’t a party to the seller-creator commission agreement. Your costs are the withdrawal fees — $0.05 for bank transfer, 0.9% for PayPal.

TikTok Curious? You Gotta Read These Too:

Start at 1,000, Not 5,000

The requirement that stops most people applying isn’t real.

One thousand followers, eighteen years old, a verified ID and a bank account with a matching name. That’s the gate.

Everything after that is a 30-day clock and ten orders.

Planning to amplify what works with paid traffic later?

The credit is tied to how you register, and registering wrong forfeits it permanently.

Stop waiting for 5,000. Apply at 1,000.
